Ajisai Carrum
About This Spot
Stepping into Ajisai Carrum feels like being gently invited into a quiet corner of Japan and its culinary embrace—right in the heart of Carrum. The space hums with a relaxed yet attentive rhythm, where the thoughtful arrangement of wooden accents and subtle Japanese details create a backdrop that encourages slowing down, savoring moments, and sharing meals that comfort and surprise in equal measure.
Here, the pace is unhurried, inviting locals and visitors alike to linger over bowls of rich ramen or carefully crafted sushi rolls, where freshness and balance take center stage. The menu is a harmonious dance of flavors that reflect a soft fusion of Japanese tradition and subtle Chinese influences, presenting everything from spicy pork ramen that warms you from within to impeccably fresh salmon nigiri that melts almost as soon as it touches the tongue.
There’s something quietly special about the way dishes arrive: a vibrant sushi platter brimming with color, or teriyaki-glazed beef that carries a depth of umami without overwhelming. Even the simple pleasures—like a bowl of edamame or a crisp California roll—feel thoughtfully composed, carrying an ease and familiarity that welcomes repeat visits. This is a place where the food and the atmosphere work in tandem to craft a soothing weekend dinner or a midweek pause from the rush.
Despite its unassuming location just off the Nepean Highway, Ajisai Carrum has settled into the rhythm of the neighborhood, a spot where the local vibe is as much part of the experience as the well-poured sake or the soft clink of ORION beer glasses. The staff’s genuine warmth rounds out the feeling of being looked after, making it easy to return, whether to discover new favorites or simply to enjoy those comforting staples you’ve come to cherish.
For those drawn to authentic moments shared over thoughtful Japanese fare—without the fuss—Ajisai Carrum quietly stands as a neighborhood gem, inviting guests into a space where food tells a story, and every visit feels like a small, satisfying journey.

I come regularly, California roll and chef special fried rice is my all time favorite. If I don’t know what to have for my dinner, I’d come here, order a roll of sushi and enjoy some time here. Staff are lovely.

I went for the first the time last night and thought the food was fabulous! I wish I had tried it earlier. I had the salmon sushi. The rolls were big, ever so fresh and tasted divine. My husband had the California rolls, which were also delicious. We weren't that hungry last night, so only went to get rolls but I cant wait to try the rest of their menu. Im so happy that it is also open on a monday, when not much else is. I feel I shall become a regular.

I had dinner with my family (4 people) at this gem of a restaurant on Saturday evening and could not express how pleasurable the experience was . Firstly, the restaurant presented really well with Japenese vibes and intricacies which set the tone really well to the night. Ordering food was very simple on an Ipad..which had photos to make it easier to choose from if you aren't familiar with certain dishes ( plenty of dishes to choose from). The food came out quickly with a busy restaurant whilst they managed online orders. The food looked amazing and was delicious ( a few Instagram photostaken). The highlight was the sushi platter which was very fresh, authentic, delicious and plentiful....but most of all highly affordable!! The staff were amazing and worked well to serve in-house and on-line patrons with their meals in a timely manner whilst upholding the quality and integrity of their food. Ajisai, is was massive a win and as a local can't believe I hadn't been there sooner. If you live in the Bayside area and are looking for great Japanese food, great service, a great venue and reasonable prices, then I highly recommend you try this restaurant you won't be disappointed!

The roasted pork ramen was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, since we came during a busy time, the sashimi we ordered took much longer than expected. By the time we finished our ramen, we had already waited 40 minutes for sashimi still hadn’t been served. We had hoped to eat it before the ramen, but in the end, we decided to cancel the order. Despite that, we were very satisfied with the ramen and would love to come back again

Staffs were really nice and food was tasty. I was a bit sceptical when i saw Chinese food on the menu but the Japanese pork curry katsu, beef teriyaki and sushi were delicious.
